My younger sister Lauri has had a viola in her hand since….well, since I can remember it seems. My brother and I used to cringe during those early years where she dutifully scratched away during her viola practices. School lessons gave way to private lessons, and then even more lessons, then the chance to become a part of the Dayton Ohio Youth Orchestra which required 1 hour weekly commutes each way. When it came time for her to go to college she wavered for a bit on her major, not sure if she should pursue her love for music or English, or a variety of other possible fields where she would no doubt excel. But in the end, she chose her love of music and decided to attend Cincinnati Conservatory of Music where she is now a junior viola performance major. This past Friday night, she held a recital and I was just blown away by her talent and how far she’s come since those early days. Lauri, I apologize for all of my complaining during your practices, I was a completely bratty big sister…..those days of screeching were incredibly worth it and you have invested so much in realizing this dream and we are all SO proud of you and how far you’ve come. You really have been given an amazing gift and I am excited to continue to watch it grow. Love you sis.
Thanks for looking!
